Even when we're surrounded by the negatives of a pandemic, there are still so many positives.
Coronavirus has brought with it very uncertain times not only to this country but to the whole world. There are never-ending lists of unanswered questions that simply cannot be answered at the minute: When will all of this be over? When can everyone go back to work/school/university? Will the country/world ever be able to go back to how it was? All the unanswered questions and the uncertainty among us is bound to cause high levels of worry and anxiety. I know it definitely has for me.
A lot of the people around me are struggling and it can be really difficult to see others, especially those you love, and only have very limited ways of helping them. Not being able to go around to family’s house for a cup-of-tea and a big hug is the thing I miss most and it will definitely be the first thing I’ll be doing once it is safe to do so! We are surrounded by negativity and not many people are spreading the positive stories that are out there
(there will ALWAYS be something positive no-matter the situation!).
Below I have listed links to some articles that hopefully will add a little positivity to your day…
Social Media has been flocking with ideas of what to do to keep busy during lockdown. From learning dances as a family to dressing up and pretending your own house is the restaurant. People everywhere are bringing out their creative and imaginative sides and spreading some joy and positivity in these upsetting times. Below are some ideas to keep you busy or to give you some inspiration/motivation to try something new:
Technology is Key
Our world revolves around technology and there has never been a more perfect time to make use of it: phone-calls, video-calls, text messages. Making the most of these ways of communicating will make you feel not to far away from your family and friends. Even though it won’t come close to being with them in person, it is important to remember that this is only temporary and staying indoors and following the lockdown rules is the best way to keep not only yourself safe, but everyone else around you, including your family and friends. There are endless apps that let you video-call with a group of people all at once and I know that talking to family on a daily basis has been the one thing keeping me sane through all of this.
Hobbies
Having so much free time in the house is the perfect opportunity to pick up an old hobby or spend more time doing something you love. This could anything: drawing, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, reading. Or you could even take up a new hobby, try something new?
Ambitions
Have you got an ambition in life that you could start to work on whilst working from home? Maybe learn a new language? Start your own blog? Even write your own book?
Self-Care
Self-care is super important. Especially in these times. Self-care even as small as making sure you’re eating three meals a day. Or maybe giving yourself a little pamper, running yourself a bubble bath, doing a face-mask, setting some time aside to do some yoga, paint your nails, it could be anything at all. Even doing your hair and make-up when you get up in the morning, just for a sense of both self-care and normality.
Exercise
Exercise has countless benefits and it is a great thing to do at home if you’re not getting any form of exercise into your daily routine. Even setting aside half an hour a day to go for a walk or doing something a bit more ambitious and starting ‘Couch to 5K’. Yoga, meditation and breathing activities are all good ways to take a break from whatever you’re doing and give your mind and body some relaxation.
Challenges
If you wanted something you could work towards or something to work on daily, there are so many challenges you could do. A 30-day drawing challenge or a 30-day fitness challenge? There are plenty of challenges already available on Pinterest or google or you could even make your own challenge. It could be absolutely anything from a 30-day yoga challenge to a 30-day Instagram challenge. Or even an 100-day challenge?
Schedule
I think one of the most important things to remember whilst in lockdown is keeping to a schedule. It doesn’t have to an hour-by-hour plan to each of your days but just as a way to break up your day to keep your mind and body active. Have a section somewhere in your day dedicated to exercise, a section dedicated to self-care, a section dedicated to doing a bit of cleaning, a section where you can just sit and watch a movie or some tele. Breaking your day up and not just staying in bed for the whole day will make lockdown so much more bearable. Keeping to a sleeping pattern and making sure to each at the usual times of the day will ensure that sense of normality, even just a little bit. Doing different things within your day will also ensure that not everyday feels the same and you will gain a sense of achievement by keeping your mind and body both busy and healthy.
